About TMIS
The Tourism Management Institute of Singapore (TMIS) was officially launched on 16 November 2000. It was previously known as the Centre for Tourism-Related Studies (CTRS) and established in 1987. TMIS is a fully-owned subsidiary of the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS). The corporate mission of TMIS is to upgrade the professionalism, service and productivity of the travel and tourism industry. In addition to providing training for our industry members, TMIS is also actively promoting and providing tourism courses and training to the public in Singapore.
Since its inception, TMIS has trained more than 35,000 students from the tour and travel industry. With a pool of over 60 experienced trainers, TMIS offers a wide spectrum of courses, from the certificate level to diploma and degree programmes. TMIS’ courses are fully accredited by established institutions and our trainers come with valuable experience and qualifications in their respective fields.
TMIS is proud to be appointed by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) as the lead school to provide training programmes on Tour and Travel Services and Attractions under the Tourism Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) framework. TMIS is the first national continuing education and training institute for the Tour & Travel Services as well as Attractions Sectors.
TMIS was awarded the Casetrust for Education accreditation in May 2005, further enhancing the confidence of international students and their parents on the quality of education and business practices at TMIS.
TMIS was also awarded the prestigious SQC-PEO accreditation trustmark in November 2005, in recognition of business excellence and a track record of quality in the delivery of education and training.
The new TMIS @ Orchard provides rich opportunities for students and lecturers to engage in learning experiences in a centralised learning hub with enhanced facilities. Boasting over 10,000 square feet of space, with 10 classrooms, wireless broadband and computing facilities, a student lounge, a comprehensive resource center, as well as a trainers’ lounge, TMIS @ Orchard is poised in the right direction towards its corporate mission to upgrade the professionalism, service and productivity of the travel and tourism industry.
TMIS ENGLISH PREPARATORY COURSE
INTRODUCTION
The TMIS English Preparatory Course (EPC) is an intensive English programme aimed at (International) students who already possess a basic level of English Language but wish to develop their English Language skills quickly and comprehensively in order to pursue the WSQ Certificate, WSQ Diploma, IATA-UFTAA Travel and Tourism and TMIS Diploma in Travel and Tourism courses. There are 2 Levels in the English Preparatory programme and is available only on a full-time basis. Each level can be completed in 3 months and classes are held for 4 hours daily from Monday to Friday.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, students will be able to communicate in English verbally and in written form. They will be able to:-
1 listen and respond to, and participate in a conversation conducted in the English language with a specific purpose
2 speak clearly in a conversation, when asking questions or making requests, over the telephone, when giving instructions etc.
3 read a variety of text such as fiction and non-fiction books, newspaper, advertisement, flyers, instructional manual, letters etc.
4 write grammatically correct sentences in letters, essays, messages, diary etc.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Prospective students must have at least GCE ‘N’ Level or equivalent. Student must be at least 16 years old and above. For more details, please refer to Annex A – Admission Criteria For International Students.
CERTIFICATION
On successful completion of the programme, the English Preparatory Certificate will be awarded by TMIS.

About WSQ
The Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) is an integrated continuing education and training system. The WSQ caters to adult workers who have widely diverse training needs and offers a correspondingly wide range of certifications and qualifications.
WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour & Travel Services/Attractions (Dual Certification) aims to train international students with little or no prior experience to take up jobs at operational/supervisory level, e.g. Tour Consultants, Travel Consultants, In order to plug the gaps for both training delivery as well as the skills level in the Tour and Travel Services/ Attractions sector via a pipeline of skilled international workers.
At the end of the programme, student will be able to :
- Understand the systematic framework of travel and tourism/attractions;
- Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in travel and tourism/attraction operations;
- Analyze strategic issues related to the travel and tourism/attractions
COURSE STRUCTURE
Duration of the course is 12 months, which includes the following;
- Classroom instruction (6 months).
- Students will be attached to tourism related industry (6 months).
- Job Attachment with monthly allowance of S$ 500 – S$ 800.

Prospective students must have at least GCE 'N' Level or equivalent, with a pass in English. Student must be at least 16 years old and below 25 years old.

Upon successful completion of all the modules and achieving 75% attendance, WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Dual Certification) will be awarded to the students by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). For progression, students can pursue a Bachelor Degree in Tourism.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Prospective students must have a least GCE ' O ' Level or equivalent with a pass in English or WSQ Advanced Certificate/ ITE skills Certificate in Travel Services. Student must be at least 16 years old and below 30 years old.
CLASS COMMENCEMENT DATES
Monthly intake with effect in July 2008 (modular basis)

IATA-UFTAA TRAVEL & TOURISM FOUNDATION DIPLOMA
The Foundation Diploma is the first of the four levels of the ITAT/UFTAA Career Path Training Programme. The Consultant Diploma is the second of the four levels of the IATA/UFTAA Career Path Training Programme. On completion of this Consultant Course, you'll be qualified with the ITAT/UFTAA International Travel & Tourism Consultant Diploma and entitled to use the letters DTTC after your name. This programme calls for more than knowledge, as there is a heavy emphasis on situational applications.

About NATAS
The National Association of Travel Agents (NATAS) represents the majority of travel agents in Singapore and also counts in its membership, travel-related organizations such as hotels, airlines, attractions, training providers and insurance companies. ADVANCED STANDINGS
Upon successful completion of this course, graduates are granted 8 units exemption, for Bachelor of Business (Tourism Management) by Southern Cross University. With the exemption students are able to complete the degree programme in 2 years.
CERTIFICATION
A Diploma in Travel & Tourism will be awarded to participants who have successfully completed all the course work and passed all the examination. Students are required to attain at least 75% attendance.
